Imagine.......... Sunset at the beach. The bride with a wreath of flowers on her head or on her ankle, visible only when the breeze lifts her dress. Bare feet in warm sand. Sounds of the sea serenade as you promise to love only each other. For a moment no one else exists but the two of you. A Charleston beach wedding is the most intimate of moments. A few close friends and family members looking on while you say your vows. The breeze is tickling your hair and the ocean seems to go on for eternity. When it really comes down to it, this is what a it's is really all about, the two of you and what you see in each other eyes.

I have lived along the coast my entire life and still everytime I see the ocean, it's like my first time. . I love the way it smells, the way it sounds, the way it feels. I have seen funnel spouts off the shore, dolphins and once at sunrise, we saw an alligator in surf....really. It is truly one of my favorite places to be and without question most of our most memorable weddings have been here. The best time is about 90 minutes befor the sun disappears. On a good evening, the sky is every shade of orange you can think of...on a perfect evening..., the heavens give you pink. And as you can see below, even a cloudy day is beautiful by the ocean.

If you're thinking of a beach wedding consider these things...unless you have it at the county park (pictured below) there is little room for parking, so over say 35 people, you might have a problem. Permits are required for gatherings over 20 people (we'll handle those). If perfect hair is important, rethink the beach, there is ALWAYS a breeze. And yes, sand will get on your dress, but guess what...it doesn't stain and usually, it wipes right off. Before 5pm in June, July or August, it's going to be HOT and the sun off the sand will cause you to squint (not good for photos). After 7pm, the temperatures are perfect. If it rains, it rains. The best part of the beach is that it's inexpensive. We do not have a back up facility for rain (unless of course, you're having your wedding at the Pelican), so, if it rains, we really must cross that bridge when we come to it. Odds are in your favor that it won't rain....

Above left, is the Folly Beach County Park Pelican Watch and to the right a photo of it lit up at night. The photo at far right is the view of the beach from the 2nd floor boardwalk of the Pavillion. You can get married on the beach and have your reception in the Pavillion. Below left is the 2nd floor of the pavillion, great for dancing.
